Animal Control
The City of Burnet Code of Ordinances governs animal control within the city limits. The Office of Animal Control can be contacted for issues related to nuisance animals, including wild ones. You may also report dangerous or potentially dangerous animals, as well as cases of abuse or neglect. For immediate assistance with a problem animal, dial 911 to have an officer dispatched, or reach out to the Animal Control Officer at (512) 756-6404 for other concerns.
Current shelter fees apply for housing your pet, which will be accommodated at the Christ-Yoder Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, managed by the Hill Country Humane Society/SPCA. If your pet is taken in by Animal Control, you can reach the shelter at (512) 793-5463. The shelter is located at 9150 Highway 1431 West in Buchanan Dam and operates daily from 12 PM to 5 PM. Pets are held for a maximum of five days. If you’ve lost a pet, you can send photos and descriptions to info@hchstexas.com.
The City of Burnet mandates that all pets be vaccinated. For further details, please refer to the "Responsible Pet Ownership Brochure" provided below. Residents can also contact the Animal Control Officer for information on vaccination locations.
Warning
Residents are advised that several animals in Burnet have tested positive for rabies in recent months.
The Burnet Animal Control Officer urges the public to report any animals behaving unusually, whether they are wild or domestic, by contacting the Animal Control Officer at (512) 756-6404, or by calling 911 in the case of an aggressive animal. It is important not to approach or attempt to capture any animal that appears sick or aggressive. Additionally, residents are advised against leaving food outside, as this can attract skunks and other wildlife.
